INDIA GOES INTERNATIONAL

INDIAN MODELS ..........And.......... The International Model Industry

With almost every major international beauty pageant already in their kitty, Indian fashion models have now set their eyes on the ramps of Paris, Milan, London and New York.

Thousands of young Indian teenagers are going through the rigors of modeling classes, make-up sessions and personality coaching, hoping to make it to the big league.

For them modeling is an attractive career option that promises heavy doses of glamour, money and a flamboyant lifestyle.

Two Indians have won the Miss Universe title since 1994, and three were crowned Miss World during the same period.

These successes in the international arena have helped change the Indian mindset towards modeling, turning it into a very viable career option.

FASHION TRENDS

What's in, and what's out?
Most common question amongst people of all ages. Almost every age group of both the genders are concerned with the latest on the fashion scene. They do not want to walk down the street in something that belongs to another era all together. Everyone wants to keep up with the times, and seem even prefer being leaders in fashion trends - they would rather be trendsetters than followers. But then, knowledge of what's dominating this season is the only way to be up to date.

Dedicated magazines ----> Provide a regular update on the dominating aspects of the latest trends. In fact, the women's magazines have a special section that provides all that's in for that particular month. This information is not only about the clothes, but also the cosmetic trend and the accessories. Well, the men's magazines also contain this information.

Newspapers---> Have a special section on all the news; not only of the domestic Indian ramp, but also about international fashion. Fashion gurus publish books on how to define and identify the latest trends, and how to integrate these trends without making any kind of dramatic changes. They also provide guidelines to aspiring fashion designers on how to establish trends that should become recognized as prominent features of the fashion stage.

Television -----> Programs that provide interviews with fashion designers, models and even consumers, who speak about how comfortable they are with the latest trend, after watching the designer's showcase on the ramp. Also, fashion experts provide feedback about the latest collection showcased, which is a means of critically appreciating the designers' work. This way people know what can be worn and should be worn.

Movies ----> People, in general, also find out about the latest trends through movies and television serials. Watching the characters on screen is means of knowing what dominates the fashion scene. Or rather, the characters tend to set trends that inspires people to imitate this in real life. In away this is a compliment to the designer in charge of creating the look of the character.

WILLS LIFESTYLE FASHION WEEK 2008

Ranna Gill, Rohit Bal designs scorch Wills India Fashion Week...

New Delhi, Mar 13 (ANI): Shades of an evocative autumn and ancient artistic tradition of Ashta Dhatu (mixture of eight metals) by fashion designer Ranna Gill and Rohit Bal caught the audience's fancy at the Wills India Fashion Week. 'Autumn Garden' by Ranna Gill integrated and infused the magic and romance of autumn gardenia into her design philosophy and produced something tangible and more creatively into something wearable. The spectacular show showcased intense winter and autumn colours in shades of wine berry, sunset purple, warm taupe, military olive, chestnut and black coffee and form the core palette of her collection. Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu walked the ramp in a blush pink 'Cinderella' dress, having an empire cut bustier and a velvet band across her left shoulder at the event for designer duo Gauri and Nainika. "Any girl who would wear their creations would look very beautiful, just like princess. I feel Gauri and Nainika give you different moods. Sometime you look girly, sometime very feminine, sometime sexy, and sometime very classy," Bipasha said. Fabrics like satin, velvet, tulle and lace were used in the entire Gauri-Nainika collection to design A-line dresses paired with shorts or pants. Bals' collection was inspired by the age-old form 'Astha Dhatu', that involves eight different metals, for the purpose of creating a variety of aesthetic objects. The combination of these metals is believed to have miraculous healing properties. "I think (Indian) fashion is not far behind. But we need to show and what we need to create is something, which has a very Indian soul and very Indian ethos. It is something which is a balance between the incredible art and craft that we have in India and making it contemporary and showing to the world a modern India," said Bal. Contemporary and international silhouettes have been used keeping in mind the global market. Around 82 designers will showcase their autumn and winter collections at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week' 2008 for more than 150 domestic and international buyers, at the Pragati Maidan, a sprawling trade promotion complex in the heart of New Delhi. Estimated at around 6-7 billion rupees, the Indian fashion industry is slated to grow further by leaps and bounds. Events like the Wills India Fashion Week provide a platform for the designers to directly interact with the buyers and do good business. (ANI)
